Configuring two portal instances using the same database subsystem

You can install two separate instances of IBM® WebSphere® Portal, portal_instance1 and portal_instance2, into the same IBM DB2 Universal Database™ for z/OS® subsystem.

Before you begin

Understand how to share database domains between separate portal instances.

About this task

A WebSphere Portal for z/OS instance can be either a single server or a WebSphere Portal for z/OS cluster. The portal instances can be completely separate or can share database domains.

Procedure

  • For shared domains, use the same schema name and the same database configuration values for portal_instance1 and portal_instance2.
  • For separate domains, use different schema names.
  • WebSphere Virtual Member Manager (VMM) must be configured separately because it is no longer part of the WebSphere Portal database. However, there are database domains related to WebSphere Virtual Member Manager (VMM) for database user registry and property extension. WebSphere Virtual Member Manager (VMM) does not support different schema names; therefore, the second instance must point to a different VMM database.
