You can relocate a file storage area from one physical location to another.
Before you begin
You need a backup and restore utility to move the file
storage area. Ensure that the utility that you use can preserve the
folder structure and security settings of the original file storage
area. Moving files with tools other than a backup and restore utility
does not preserve the security settings on the files.
The
process takes a considerable amount of time, depending on the size
of the file storage area and the location it is being moved to. The
file storage area is unavailable to users until the process is complete.
Procedure
To move a file storage area:
- Close the file storage area to further changes:
- In the administration console, navigate to the file
storage area that you want to move.
- On the Configuration tab, set Resource
status to Closed.
- Back up the files in the current file storage area. For information about what to back up, see Storage area backup.
- Restore the files to the new file storage area location. For more information, see your backup utility documentation.
- Update the location for the file storage area and reopen
it for updates:
- In the administration console, navigate to the file
storage area that you want to move.
- On the General tab, enter the
path to the new file storage area in Root directory path.

status to its previous setting.
- Validate the file storage area. For detailed
instructions, see Validating a storage area.
