Considerations for the network deployment topology

Network deployment (ND) in IBM® Business Monitor builds upon the network deployment functions that are implemented in WebSphere® Application Server Network Deployment.

If you are familiar with network deployment in WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment, the concepts are the same. For IBM Business Monitor, two patterns are available: the Single Cluster pattern and the Application, Remote Messaging, and Remote Support (three-cluster) pattern.

To install the IBM Business Monitor server and all required components using the single cluster or three-cluster deployment environment, use the following high-level steps:

  1. Complete the pre-installation steps found in Preparing to install.
  2. Install IBM Business Monitor by following the steps in Installing the IBM Business Monitor software.
  3. Create a deployment manager profile by using either the Profile Management Tool or the manageprofiles command, as described in Creating and augmenting profiles.
  4. Unless you created the MONITOR database as part of creating the profile, run the scripts to create the database, following the instructions in Creating and configuring the databases.
  5. Start the deployment manager.
  6. Create custom nodes that are federated into the deployment manager cell by following the steps in Creating and augmenting profiles.
  7. Use the monConfig script to create the deployment environment with a single-cluster or three-cluster pattern. Follow the steps in Creating a deployment environment by using the monConfig script.
  8. Configure additional components such as Business Space and IBM Cognos® BI, following the instructions in Configuring IBM Business Monitor components.

The clusters are created and all required IBM Business Monitor components are installed and configured for you.

You can optionally check the status of the components and make updates by using the administrative console.
