Installing and configuring in a cluster deployment or network deployment

Before you install IBM® Case Manager, you must first install the prerequisite software applications on the same server. Then you can use the IBM Case Manager tools to install and configure the IBM Case Manager applications.

Before you begin

For details about the hardware and software requirements, see the IBM Case Manager information in the IBM FileNet® P8 Hardware and Software Requirements guide.

About this task

A typical IBM Case Manager environment includes an FileNet P8 Platform system that is installed and configured on a distributed set of servers. You can use an existing installation, or install a new FileNet P8 Platform system to work with IBM Case Manager. Before you install IBM Case Manager, you must configure your FileNet P8 Platform environment to work with IBM Case Manager.

Both cluster deployment and network deployment include managed nodes and a deployment manager. In cluster deployment, you deploy to a set of managed servers that are part of a cluster. In network deployment, you deploy to a managed individual server that is not part of a cluster.

If you did not prepare a server or servers for IBM Case Manager that includes the prerequisite software, you must install and configure the following applications to work with IBM Case Manager:
  • A web application server, either WebSphere® Application Server Network Deployment Edition or Oracle WebLogic Server
  • IBM Content Navigator
  • Workplace XT (for development environments)

You configure and deploy IBM Content Navigator and Workplace XT as clients of the Content Platform Engine instance that hosts the IBM Case Manager object stores. IBM Content Navigator hosts the administration client and the Case Manager Client application. Workplace XT provides workflow configuration tools in the development environment. In a development environment, Workplace XT can be in the same cluster or in a separate cluster. In a production environment, Workplace XT must be installed in a separate cluster.

After you install the prerequisites, you run the IBM Case Manager installation program. The IBM Case Manager installation program installs the IBM Case Manager files.

Use the IBM Case Manager configuration tool to configure the development and production environments. You use the configuration tool to create profiles that contain tasks, where you enter properties and settings for all aspects of your IBM Case Manager environment and applications. After you run the configuration tasks, your IBM Case Manager system is ready to use.
