Migrating case types

Before you can edit case types that were created in previous versions of IBM® Process Designer, you must convert them to processes. A process provides all the capability of both case types and BPDs.

As of Process Designer 8.5.7.0, you can no longer create case types. To continue working with existing case types, you must convert them to processes. When you open a Case Type, it automatically converts to a new flexible process definition that fully supports both case type and business process definition capabilities. Your definition continues to function exactly as before, using equivalent modeling support. Case properties, variables and UIs that were defined in the case type are carried over to the process, as are teams defined in the Overview tab. The Definition tab has the following elements:
Start event (Manual Start)
This is a start event of implementation type None. This event allows you to launch the case in Process Portal.
Start event (Document Start)
If there is a starting document in the case type, it is converted to this start event of implementation type Document. The reference to the starting documents type is maintained.
Subprocess (Executing Phase)
Case type activities are converted into unwired activities in this subprocess. The behavior properties and preconditions are maintained.
To convert a case type to a process:
  1. Open the process app that contains your case types. They appear under Processes in the library.
  2. Click the case type. You are prompted to open the case type.
  3. Click View to open the case type in read-only mode.
  4. Click Open to convert the case type into a process.
Note: You cannot revert to a case type after it is converted to a process.
