Installing Annotation Administration Console

You can install IBM® Watson Explorer Annotation Administration Console after you install the IBM Watson Explorer Foundational Components.

Procedure

To install Annotation Administration Console on a single server by using the graphical installation program:

  1. Change to the directory where you installed the IBM Watson Explorer Foundational Components, such as /opt/IBM/WEX on a Linux system or C:\Program Files\IBM\WEX on a Windows system.
  2. Run the appropriate command for your operating system:
    Linux
    1. Start a terminal session (xterm, gnome-terminal, or other terminal application) and use the su or sudo -s command to become the root user.
    2. Run the command: ./ANNOTATION_ADMIN_LINUX_11.0.0.bin
    Windows
    1. Log in as a Windows administrator.
    2. Run the command: Double-click the ANNOTATION_ADMIN_WINDOWS_11.0.0.exe file or enter ANNOTATION_ADMIN_WINDOWS_11.0.0.exe in a command window.
  3. Follow the instructions in the installation program. When you specify installation options:
    1. Enter or verify the fully qualified host name of this computer. You cannot specify an IPv6 address as the host name of the server.
    2. Accept or change the user name for the master Annotation Administration Console administrator account and specify a password. To administer Annotation Administration Console, you log in with this user name and password.

      The default value is esadmin. If you want to specify a different value, be sure to review the administrator ID requirements in Administrator ID and password.

      After you install Annotation Administration Console, you can enable login security. If enabled, the text analytics API must provide this user ID and password when retrieving analysis results.

  4. Click Install to apply the default settings for the installation directory path, data directory path, and port assignments. The installation program starts installing the software.
  5. Optional: If you want to change the default settings, click Advanced Options instead of clicking Install.
    1. Use the following guidelines when you specify installation options:
      • Ensure that the default paths for the installation and data directories comply with the required format. For example, certain characters are not allowed and path names on Linux cannot contain spaces.
      • Ensure that the default ports do not conflict with any ports that are already assigned to other applications on this computer.
    2. On the summary page, review the options that you selected and click Install to start installing the software.
  6. On Windows, after the software is installed, restart the computer before you start Annotation Administration Console.
