Creating Widgets

Widgets are used to display information to the user on an application page or in the application header.

1. Click the Layouts link in the header of the administration tool.
2. Complete one of the following steps:
   • If you want to create a widget on a page in the application, click the Pages tab, then click the name of the page where you want the widget to be displayed.
   • If you want to create a widget in the header of the application, click the Header tab.
   • If you want to create a widget in the navigation of the application, click the Navigation tab.
   • If you want to create a widget in the footer of the application, click the Footer tab.
3. Click the Create widget button.
4. Select a new or existing widget and click Create.
   • Select an item from the New widget list if you want to create a widget from one of the default options. The following widget options are available:
     Note: In the list of widgets, you can choose only widgets that are valid for the page or header where you create the widget.
     • Activity Feed - Creates an activity feed widget. See Activity Feed Widget Configuration Options
     • Container - Creates a container widget. See Container Widget Configuration Options
     • Custom - Creates a Custom widget. See Custom Widget Configuration Options
     • Entity Chart - Creates a chart widget. See Chart Widget Configuration Options
     • Entity Information - Creates an information widget. See Entity Information Widget Configuration Options
     • Entity Table - Creates a table widget. See Entity Table Widget Configuration Options
     • Entity Table Filter - Creates a table filter widget. See Table Filter Widget Configuration Options
     • Footer Links - Creates a widget that contains links in the footer of the end-user application. See General Configuration Options
     • IFrame - Creates an iframe widget. See iFrame Widget Configuration Options
     • Image - Creates a widget in the header that contains an image, such as a logo. See Image Widget Configuration Options
     • List - Creates a list widget. See List Widget Configuration Options
     • Navigation - Creates a widget in the header that contains the navigation for the end-user application. See Navigation Widget Configuration Options
     • Refinement - Creates a search refinement widget. See Refinement Widget Configuration Options
     • Refinement Breadcrumbs - Creates a search refinement widget. Only general configuration options are available for this widget. See General Configuration Options
     • Search Box - Creates a widget in the header that contains a search box. Only general configuration options are available for this widget. See General Configuration Options
     • Search Results - Creates a search results widget. See Search Results Widget Configuration Options
     • Shared Content - Creates a shared content widget. See Shared Content Widget Configuration Options
     • Spotlight Group - Creates a spotlight widget. See Spotlight Group Widget Configuration Options
     • Table - Creates a table widget. See Table Widget Configuration Options
     • Topic Cloud - Creates a topic cloud widget. See Topic Cloud Widget Configuration Options
   • Select an item from the Based on existing widget list if you want to create a widget that is based on one of the widgets that were created. This option might be a good choice if the widget you are creating is very similar to an existing widget and has a significant amount of Ruby or ERB code fields.
5. Enter an ID for the entity, configure the Type Specific Configuration as listed above, and General Configuration as described in: General Configuration Options.
6. Click Create widget at the bottom of the page to save the widget configuration and make it available for use on the application page. Click the Back to page_name page link at the top of the screen to add your widget to the page. See Adding Widgets to Application Pages for instructions about adding widgets to an application page.
7. If you want to delete a widget, navigate to the page that it was created on, drag and drop it in the Widgets section, and then click the delete icon (x) for the widget.
