IBM Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager for Windows, Version 4.1

Configuring Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager for SQL on Windows Server Core

The following sections describe how to manually configure Tivoli® Storage FlashCopy® Manager on Windows Server Core.

Before you begin

When Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager is installed on the remote system and PowerShell remoting is configured on the remote system, on either a local or centralized computer, add the remote server core system to the Microsoft Management Console (MMC). On the local system that is running the MMC, you can point to the server core system and complete the TSM Configuration wizard. Using the wizard, you can provision and configure the software as if the wizard is running on the remote system.

If you are not using the remote configuration option, before you can use Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager to protect your SQL Server 2012 data on Windows Server Core, ensure that you install Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager and the Tivoli Storage Manager backup-archive client on the system that runs the Microsoft SQL Server.

Procedure

Complete the following tasks:

  1. Create a node on the Tivoli Storage Manager server for the backup-archive client and Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager. If you are protecting availability databases in an AlwaysOn Availability Group, you must also create the AlwaysOn node on the Tivoli Storage Manager server.
  2. If you intend to run offloaded VSS backups, set up a remote node to run the offloaded backup operation on a remote computer.
  3. Configure the backup-archive client options file (dsm.opt).
  4. Configure the Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager option files (dsm.opt and tsmfcm.cfg).
  5. If you use Tivoli Storage Manager policy sets, you must also specify a management class to use for your Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager backups.
