SAS subsystem configuration that uses a dual storage IOA with external drives

This configuration uses dual storage I/O adapter (IOA) or high availability (HA) RAID mode with internal and external disk drives.

You can increase availability by using high availability to connect multiple adapters to a common set of internal disk drives and external disk enclosures. The following rules apply to this configuration:

Example: Dual storage IOA using external drives

This example provides an overview of the dual storage IOA configuration that uses external disk drives.

The following table lists the configuration details.

Two embedded SAS adapters
  • RAID mode is required for this configuration.
  • SAS adapters connect to all six disk drives and to any drives that are attached by the external cable.
  • Physical connections to the SAS cable are enabled to attach to another SAS port expander in an external disk enclosure. The SAS external port card, YI cable, or expansion enclosure might be present.
  • The two embedded adapters report as CCIN 57CF.
