Abstract

IBM® Rational® ClearQuest® Application Lifecycle Management Packages, Version 1.3 -- ALMWork 1.3, Attachments 2.1, and EmailPlus 2.1

Important: Starting in ClearQuest V8.0.0.3, the ClearQuest ALM V1.3 packages (ALMWork 1.3, Attachments 2.1, and EmailPlus 2.1) are included as part of the ClearQuest installation, so this download document does not apply to users of ClearQuest V8.0.0.3 or later.

The Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) packages provide a solution for ensuring ALM best practices in existing Rational® ClearQuest® change management systems. Application Lifecycle Management enables streamlining a team’s ability to produce a software release. It involves the coordination of software development activities and assets to produce and manage software applications throughout their life cycles.

The ClearQuest ALMWork package builds on the ALMProject package. This package comprises a collection of tightly integrated record types that create a foundation for managing software and other kinds of development projects.

The ClearQuest Attachments 2.1 package provides external storage of ClearQuest attachments in off-site locations, such as FTP servers. This release is certified and supported for the ClearQuest ALM schema and any other schema, and supports the stateless record-type. ClearQuest Attachments 2.1 augments the existing attachment solutions provided by the ClearQuest Attachments 1.0 solution.

The ClearQuest EmailPlus 2.1 package provides enhanced email notification functionality to ClearQuest users. This release is certified and supported for the ClearQuest ALM schema and any other schema, and supports the stateless record-type. EmailPlus 2.1 augments the existing email notification solutions provided by the ClearQuest Email 1.0 package.

Prerequisites


Important: Use the ClearQuest ALM V1.3 packages only with Rational ClearQuest V7.1.2 or later. Using these packages with ClearQuest versions earlier than V7.1.2 is not supported.

Important: Read this section before downloading, registering, and attempting to apply the ClearQuest ALM V1.3 packages to your schema. Note that there is no official V1.2 release of the ALM packages.

If you are applying the ClearQuest ALM V1.3 packages for the first time, or you are upgrading your schema from ClearQuest ALM V1.0 to ClearQuest ALM V1.3, then you can disregard the remainder of this Prerequisites section and go to the Installation Instructions section to download the V1.3 packages.

Otherwise, if you are upgrading your schema from ClearQuest ALM V1.1 to V1.3 and you do not have the ClearQuest ALM V1.1 packages registered on your computer, then you must download and register the ClearQuest ALM V1.1 packages before you can upgrade your schema to ClearQuest ALM V1.3. Use the following 'CQ ALM V1.1 packages' link to download ClearQuest ALM V1.1. Then follow the steps in the Installation Instructions section to download the ClearQuest ALM V1.3 packages.

Installation Instructions


Use the following steps to extract and register the ClearQuest ALM 1.3 packages:

1. Create a new folder (for example: C:\CQALM_1.3_packages) and extract the contents of ClearQuest ALM V1.3 (the CQALM_1.3_package.zip archive) to that location.

    Important: Do not install the packages under the ClearQuest Packages folder in ClearQuest installation directory (for example, \Program Files\IBM\RationalSDLC\ClearQuest\packages). Doing so might later result in ClearQuest upgrade issues.
2. Open a Windows command prompt window and navigate to the directory where you extracted the package contents. For example:
    cd C:\CQALM_1.3_package

3. Run the batch file, register.bat, to register the ClearQuest ALM V1.3 packages on your computer. A success message appears after the registration is complete.

4. Using the ClearQuest Designer, apply the desired ClearQuest ALM V1.3 packages to your schema. Following is a description of the contents of each package:
  • ALMWork 1.3: ALMProject 1.0, ALMWork 1.3, Attachments 2.1, and EmailPlus 2.1 packages.
  • Attachments 2.1: Attachments 2.1 package. This package can be applied to any record type.
  • EmailPlus 2.1: EmailPlus 2.1 package. This package can be applied to any record type.

Important: When upgrading from ClearQuest ALM V1.0 to V1.3, ClearQuest Designer does not display progress or success messages indicating that the EmailPlus 2.1 package is applied. This is because ClearQuest ALM V1.0 does not include the EmailPlus package.
