z/OS V1R10 Communications Server for IP and VTAM - Migration Concerns

Preventive Service Planning

Abstract

This document addresses miscellaneous migration concerns for z/OS V1R10 Communications Server, including recommended maintenance, configuration updates, and OEM information.

This document is not meant to replace the existing Migration documentation, but rather to be used in conjunction with the manual.

Content

It is suggested that the z/OS V1R10 Migration manual be reviewed in addition to this document.

TCPIP

FTP

  • FTP batch in z/OS V1R9 and later requires a larger region size than prior releases. ABENDU4088 RC3EC could result if the region is not large enough for FTP in batch mode. May also see message CEE0814S Insufficient storage was available to extend the stack.
  • Code REGION=0M in the FTP batch job to allow FTP to use as much private address space as needed.

Also refer to technote #1292505 for information on improving system performance during heavy FTP usage.

TELNET

  • Starting In z/OS V1R9, the TN3270E Telnet server runs in its own separate address space.

  • When using secure Telnet connections, the user ID Telnet runs under must have access to the SSL key ring and certificates. This can be accomplished in one of the following ways:
    • A new key ring and certifcate needs to be created with the user ID Telnet runs under as the owner.
    • The existing key ring and certificates need to be shared with Telnet.
For more information refer to the Implementation Scenarios section of the z/OS Security Server RACF Security Administrator's Guide.

Server Applications
  • A z/OS Communications Server application takes an abend 4C5, reason code 77A53217 on startup. The following is the resulting console message:

    SYSTEM COMPLETION CODE=4C5 REASON CODE=77A53217
  • Reference Technote #1246822 for more information.

Maintenance:
  • PK67555 - Enhanced CICS listener sets incorrect data length fields in the security exit COMMAREA and the Transaction Input Message (TIM).
  • PK84730 - Some FTP SITE and LOCSITE commands not working correctly for certain options.
  • PK79822 - Loss of Default Route in CINET prerouter tables
  • PK67061 - FTP server replies for DSWAITTIME
  • PK78526 - FTP Client and Server loads the Kerberos DLL at startup
  • If using the FTPOSTPR user exit for FTP, the following maintenance should be applied:
    • PK83455 - ABEND0C4 reason code X'4' in module EZAFTPLS program EZAFTPRU at offset '192A'
    • PK86099 - ABEND0C4 in EZAFTPRU when using the FTPOSTPR and a second user/pass command is issued
    • PK88644 - EZAFTPRU abend0c4 in SETUP_FTPOSTPR when session is not logged in
  • PK86842 - Timing window can cause ASYNCIO write to be driven twice when AIOOK2COMPIMD is not specified
  • PK70082 REXX stack FEOF not being detected

VTAM

Enterprise Extender

  • Starting in z/OS V1R8, VTAM restricts the activation of parallel Enterprise Extender connections between the same IP addresses. If a predefined switched PU attempts to dial a connection to an adjacent EE endpoint and an existing connection is found that uses the same local and remote IP addresses, then the request will fail. A new message, IST2123I, is issued when the connection fails.

IST2123I DIAL FAILED FOR EE PU puname - EXISTING CONNECTION FOUND
V1R7 is the last release in which Communications Server supports the definition of parallel Enterprise Extender (EE) transmission groups (TGs) by specifying multiple SAP addresses. In V1R8 this capability was removed from the product. Beginning in z/OS V1R5, parallel EE TGs can be defined by using different EE VIPAs on one (or both) of the endpoints.

OEM

  • BMC (R) Ultraopt (TM) customers - install BMC fix BPN1246
  • This fix is required to be compatible with the ACDEB changes made in VTAM V1R9. Overlays of VTAM storage and unpredictable results occur in VTAM without this fix installed.

ISTEXCGR exit
  • If using the generic resource selection exit ISTEXCGR be aware of the following:

  • z/OS V1R9 VTAM introduces the Generic Resource Preference (GRPREFS) table to define defaults for each generic resource. Included is parameter GREXIT=NO/YES to indicate whether the exit is to be called.

GREXIT=NO is the default and must be changed to GREXIT=YES or ISTEXCGR will NOT be called.

Refer to z/OS V1R10 Communications Server New Function Summary for an overview of generic resource resolution preferences.

Refer to z/OS V1R10 SNA Resource Definition Reference for details to define a generic resource preference table.

High Performance Routing
  • Refer to technote #1367595 for compatibility requirements for HPR sessions in a mixed subarea and APPN network.

Maintenance:
  • OA28332 - NF - Add HPRSESLM=DISABLED to coexist with very old Releases of VTAM
