    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The postinstaller fails to apply *
    * service because it cannot write into *
    * directories without group write *
    *                      permission enabled.                     *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
In service levels before 7.0.0.11, the postinstaller created new
directories without group write access. In addition, for
customers with feature packs enabled, some feature pack
directories were created without group write access during
    initial feature pack setup.

Problem conclusion

  • This solution consists of a three-part fix.
    Part 1: Feature packs
The <WAS_HOME>/bin/manageprofiles.sh script was updated to
call the <WAS_HOME>/bin/fixAllGroupPerms.sh script at the end
    of processing. The <WAS_HOME>/bin/fixAllGroupPerms.sh script
will update all files and directories in the configuration
root to have group write access enabled. This change will
ensure that all new directories and files created as part of a
feature pack will have group write access enabled after
    profile augmentation.

    Part 2: Fix existing directories
Before starting each WebSphere Application Server node, run the
fixAllGroupPerms.sh script from the WebSphere Application
Server product file system, specifying the node's WAS_HOME
directory. This script must be run by a privileged user id
with enough authority to update the group permissions
because it will update all files and directories in the
configuration root to have group write access enabled.
    For example:
    cd /usr/lpp/zWebSphere/V7R0/bin
    ./fixAllGroupPerms.sh /wasv7config/bbocell/bbonode/AppServer

    Part 3: Verifying permissions
On every postinstaller run, the postinstaller will look for
outstanding files and directories without group permission
enabled. If any such files or directories are found, the
postinstaller will generate a script in
<WAS_HOME>/bin/fixGroupPerms.sh that should be run by a user
with sufficient authority to update the group permissions.
