APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • During a remote upgrade if agents had been started with a
network host name that does not match the local `uname -n`
host name, install.sh does not locate these running agents
and does not attempt to stop them.

    RECREATE INSTRUCTIONS:

    1) On AIX, Configure the system so that the network host name
and the `uname -n` local host name are the same.
    2) Remotely install the OS agent and any other agents desired.
    3) Ensure that the agents are running and connected.
    4) Run 'ps -ef | grep kuxagent' and note the start time.
    5) Locally run cinfo -r and verify that the agents report as
       running.
    6) Change the value returned by uname using the
       `uname -S testHost`.
    7) Locally run cinfo -r and verify that the agents still
       report as running.
    8) Remotely upgrade the OS agent.
    9) Review tmaitm6/agentdepot/stdout.txt and notice that no
       agents are listed as running.
    10) Run 'ps -ef | grep kuxagent' and notice that the start
        time has not changed.

Local fix

  • Beside changing the local `uname -n` host name to match the
network host name, there is no work-around.

Problem summary

  • The "install.sh" script fails to locate running processes when
local and network host names do not match.

The install.sh script fails to locate running processes when
local and network host names do not match. If agents have been
started with a network host name that does not match the current
local `uname -n` host name, install.sh does not recognize these
running processes. Local interactive installation does not warn
about these processes. Local silent installation and remote
installation does not attempt to stop these processes.

Problem conclusion

  • The "install.sh" script was modified to recognize these running
processes regardless of the host name matching.
