Error description

  • Customer downgraded/upgraded Pcomm on WindowsXP SP3
    .
    1. Uninstall Pcomm 6.0.4
    2. Install Pcomm 5.6.0 and used it for a while.
    3. Install Pcomm 6.0.4 again without uninstalling Pcomm 5.6.0
    .
    Then customer found in sound event that
     1. some sound events were not added
         pcsSoundDefaultError
         pcsSoundDefault
         pcsSoundDisconnectionComplete
         pcsSoundConnectionComplete
     2. No .wav file is associated with each sound event
        ( No speaker marks are displayed on the left side of events
          on windows sound settings)
    .
    If he uninstall Pcomm 5.6.0 before step3 above,
    the lacked events are added however .wav file is still
    not associated to each event.

    IBM Personal Communications v6.x has following limitations
    related to sound events and labels:
    1. Product installation does not assign sound labels.
    2. Product uninstallation does not remove sound labels.
    3. Product installation does not associate sound files to some
       of the sound events
    

Problem conclusion

  • A new utility, pcssound.exe, is shipped with IBM Personal
    Communications v6.0.7. It will be present under the product
    installation directory.
    
    Using the utility, it is now possible to -
    1. Assign labels to sound events.
    2. Associate sound files to sound events.
    3. Cleanup sound labels from the registry.
    4. Save the current sound scheme to a file.
    5. Restore a saved sound scheme.
    Note: Saving and restoring a sound scheme will be useful while
    changing Windows themes.
    
    Usage of the utility is as follows:
    
    pcssound <options> [filename>]
    Options:
    /s [<filename>] - Save sound settings to <filename>, default
    file name: pcssound.csv
    /r [<filename>] - Restore sound settings from <filename>,
    default file name: pcssound.csv
    /d - Delete sound labels
    /b - Restore sound settings to installation defaults
    /a - Assign sound event label under sound theme for Personal
    Communications application
    /h or /? - Display this help
    
    Fix scheduled for PCOM 6.0.7 Refresh Pack
