Error description
In the "Known Issues & Limitations" tech note available at this location http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?&uid=swg21319956 the following limitation is documented: . ============= In order to perform Mailbox Restore (IMR) operations on Exchange Server 2010, the Exchange Server that you are performing the mailbox restore on must have the Mailbox Server Role and the Client Access Server (CAS) Role. Workaround: Perform the mailbox restore operation on an Exchange server that has the Mailbox Server Role and Client Access Server (CAS) Role. When this limitation is lifted by Microsoft Exchange, the FlashCopy Manager and Data Protection for Exchange code will be updated accordingly. . =============== . On December 14, 2010 a Microsoft Knowledge Base article was published which indicates that Update Rollup 2 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 1 resolves this limitation. This article is available here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2385194/ . This APAR is to indicate that the Data Protection for Exchange product is being updated to support the new Microsoft update referenced by the above Knowledge Base article. Once this update is released, the previously noted limitation requiring both a Mailbox Server Role and a Client Access Server (CAS) role installed on the local server for IMR operations in an Exchange 2010 server environment. . Problem conclusion
Data Protectionr for Exchange will be updated to support the changes released by Microsoft as described in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2385194/ . Once this update from Microsoft is installed, and and Data Protection for for Exchange 6.1.3.1 interim fix has been installed,DP Exchange will work with Exchange2010 without the need to have a Client Access Server (CAS) role installed on local server.
