Abstract

These recommendations are based upon your system already having installed the most current Cumulative PTF Package, HIPER PTF Group, and Database PTF Group.

The IBM i Global Support Center recommends installing the group and individual fixes listed below for corrective service and preventative maintenance. If a problem persists after the recommended fixes have been installed, the Rochester Support Center can more efficiently diagnose the problem and additional fixes may be recommended.

When multiple clients are connecting at the same time on systems with sufficient parallel processing capacity the Telnet Environment options that are provided by the client may be corrupted when processing resulting in incorrect devices and failed automatic signon amongst other symptoms. MSG TCP2556 will be posted in Telnet Server QTVDEVICE joblog. (MA44752)

Important Note: This PTF requires Co-Req SI55594 or a supersede. If both PTFs are not applied some Telnet functions may not work correctly, including Bypass Signon, Session Disconnects, and Printer Device allocation.
Interactive Jobs using status messages may pause for several minutes and then fail with CPF5106 RC6138 "Error on Device - Cannot obtain send state." This is most often seen in jobs with longer running queries. (MA44276)
Telnet sessions from non-5250 Telnet clients are aborted after first character is Entered and Echoed. (MA44243)
Telnet sessions may be dropped for no apparent valid reason. VLOG 0701 005D will be generated. (MA43764)

QTVSINIT receives invalid CPF2499 and then CPF87D3 when Virtual Terminal API application request an in use Device Description instead of the expected CPF87D7 message. (SE60663)

11/21/2013 MF57402 5770999 C4143710 In certain circumstances when a network connection submits unexpected data to a Telnet connection, usually during initial connection negotiation, the telnet server may stop processing new connection attempts. Already established sessions will continue to work. VLOG 0701 005a is posted and NETSTAT may show numerous telnet connection sin a CLOSED state. An IPL is required to recover. (MA42978)
New SSL Telnet connections fail. QTVTELNET joblog shows message CPDBCA9. (MA42715)
Telnet startup failure following IPL or restricted state. A Telnet listener (SSL or non-SSL) was attempted to be activated before the IP stack (IPV4 or IPV6) was fully active. This PTF will add retry logic, but the system processes used to activate TCP and TCP Servers should be reviewed. (MA42567)

Issues may be seen from Telnet, Passthru, Webfacing Server or any Virtual Terminal API (VTAPI) application. Abnormally connected Telnet session may damage device description preventing further connections that try to access that device. (MA41906)
Telnet Server Seize may occur, predominantly seen by all QTVDEVICE jobs hanging in RUN, or END status, requiring and IPL to recover. (MA42123)

Device selection mutexs are not being closed when no longer needed, therefore a large number of mutexs may be retained. This causes the Telnet Server job to take a very long time to end. (SE53092)

STREAM I/O VLOG 1F00 0008 causes all Telnet sessions to disconnect and all QTVDEVICE jobs to end (MA39748).
Interaction between NETSTAT and Telnet can cause Telnet deadlock preventing all new Telnet connections. An IPL is required to recover (MA39930).
