Error description

  • Using z/VM Stand-alone Dump from SCSI Dasd fails on a z15
processor with wait state 4524 in the following environments:
    - in a guest and invoked with CP IPL <fcp_vdev> DUMP and
the guest virtual machine is defined with less than
       512 MB of virtual storage.
    - when loaded from HMC in a first-level system and the LPAR
is using less than 3 GB of storage.

Also CP virtual storage could be overlaid when a guest with
less than 512 MB IPLs stand-alone dump from SCSI Dasd on a
    z15 processor.

Comments

  • CP has been changed so that when running on a z15 processor, CP
checks that the guest has enough virtual storage (512MB) to IPL
from an FCP device with the DUMP option. If not, a new
variation of message HCP2815E is displayed.

HCPLDI2815E The virtual storage size must be greater than
512M to IPL from a SCSI device with the DUMP option.

Also code was changed to correctly handle the dump prefix page
so that the invalid page bits don't overlay CP virtual storage.
These parts implement the changes described above: HCPLDI,
HCPMFN, HCPPCT, HCPSDT, HCPHWLBK, HCPMES and HCPMXRBK.

Also, changes where made to CP and some stand-alone utility
programs to avoid the 4524 wait state when run smaller storage
size environments, specifically less than 3 GB when running
first level and less than 2214 MB when running second level.
This was accomplished by moving the crashkernel buffer starting
address from 128 MB to 129 MB, which means that a minimum of
257 MB of storage is necessary instead of 256 MB. These parts
    were changed:

HCPSAL - Changed so that SAPL allocates the crashkernel area
              at 129 MB or higher.

HCPDDR - Changed so that stand-alone DDR allocates the
crashkernel area at 129 MB or higher.

HCPLOD - Changed so that early CP initialization allocates the
crashkernel area at 129 MB or higher.

HCPSXU - Runs during CP Initialization sets up the crash
kernel area for CP until bounce processing occurs.

HCPBOU - Changed 2 places so that bounce processing allocates
the crashkernel area at 129 MB or higher.

GC24-6270-03 V710 z/VM: CP Messages and Codes, and
     GC24-6177-12 V640 z/VM: CP Messages and Codes.
      - HCP2815E Message variation 3 was added.
      - HCP4523W Explanation and User Response was updated.
