Error description
DFSMSdss FULL VOLUME Flashcopy to a SPACE EFFICIENT target volume is rejected with messages: ADR918I (002)-DDTFP(03), FAST REPLICATION COULD NOT BE USED FOR VOLUME volser, RETURN CODE 9 VOLUME volser WAS REJECTED FOR QFRVOLS VOLUME REASON CODE C9 - FLASHCOPY NOT SUPPORTED ADR938E (002)-DDTFP(03), FASTREPLICATION(REQUIRED) WAS SPECIFIED BUT FAST REPLICATION COULD NOT BE USED FOR VOLUME volser when the support for the 'New Function: Extent Space Efficient (Thin Provisioning) support for CKD on z/OS' is applied. QFRVOLS VOLUME reason code x'C9' (d'201') erroneously indicates that the volume does not support FlashCopy. Local fix
remove PTFs UA82299 UA82288 UA82297 for R220 or UA82298 UA82287 UA82296 for R210 This occurred when only Space-Efficient feature is present and there was neither Dataset-Level FlashCopy nor Volume Level FlashCopy. If Dataset-Level FlashCopy or Volume Level FlashCopy are enabled together with Space-Efficient feature, then this would not be a problem. or apply ++APAR AA51447 for R210 or R220 F LLA,REFRESH and C ANTMAIN to implement the fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of Space-Efficient FlashCopy on * * D/T2107 storage subsystems. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: With the announcement of Extent Space * * Efficient CKD Volumes (Thin * * Provisioning), the new function stated * * Extent Space Efficient is the * * replacement on the DS8000 family * * storage controllers for the track space * * efficient FlashCopy support in 2007 and * * sunset with the DS8880 (R8.0) delivery. * * The updated changes were done in such a * * way to fail the existing track space * * efficient FlashCopy (SEFC) support, if * * SEFC is the only feature that was * * solely enabled in the system. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** For backward compatibility, this APAR provided a fix to not fail the 'track-space efficient FlashCopy', if it is the only feature used in the system.
Problem conclusion
The fix was done in OA51447, but we are reshipping the replacement as the new function support for Thin Provisioning and it was marked as function loss. KEYWORDS: D/T2107 FLASHCPY/K
