OA50428: ABENDS0C4 RC11 IN IATISDV 16/05/31 PTF PECHANGE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• After applying the PTFs for OA43563 on a JES3 local but not
  applying it on the JES3 global, an ABENDS0C4 RC11 occurs in
  IATISDV.  This can be followed by subsequent ABENDDM014 and
  ABENDDM800 abends.
  
  ANALYSIS:
  When the PTFs for OA43563 are applied to a JES3 local, module
  IATDMDM will allocate a symbol table using variable
  J3SYMBTMAXSTATICSIZEZOSV2R2. This will result in a larger symbol
  table being allocated than previous to OA43563.  If the JES3
  global does not have the PTFs for OA43563 applied, support for
  this larger symbol table will not exist on the global.  When the
  global attempts to access the symbol table, the ABEND0C4 occurs.
  
  VERIFICATION STEPS:
  1. PTFs for OA43563 were applied on a JES3 local but not on
  the JES3 global.
  2. ABENDS0C4 RC11 abend occurs in IATISDV, possibly followed by
  ABENDDM014 and ABENDDM800 abends.

  USERS AFFECTED:
  All users who apply the PTFs for OA43563 to a JES3 local but not
  the global.
  
  These PTFs are:
  UA76771
  UA76772
  
  USER IMPACT:
  APAR OA43563 fixed the problem it reported, but lacked holddata
  indicating that the PTF must be applied to the JES3 global if it
  was going to be applied to a JES3 local.
  
  The projected closing code is PER for HJS7780 and HJS7790.
  

Local fix

• BYPASS/CIRCUMVENTION:
  Apply the PTFs for OA43563 to the JES3 global.
  

Problem summary

  A job went through Automatic Restart Processing (ARM) restart.
  As part of this, module IATDMDM sends a symbol table to the JES3
  global in a staging area (IATYSTA).  With OA43563 applied, a
  large symbol table size of 57,088 bytes is used.
  
  APAR OA43563 was not applied on the JES3 global.  Without this
  APAR, a staging area size larger than 32,767 cannot be handled
  properly.  The size was interpreted as a negative number,
  causing incorrect addressing to the symbol table, which led to
  an ABENDS0C4.  This was followed by ABENDDM014 and ABENDDM800.
