PM88331: CONCURRENT UPDATE/CREATE FAILING ON SHARED LA/DB IN VMM

Error description

Virtual member manager (VMM) allows the same repository to be
shared across different WebSphere Application Server instances.
So VMM allows to share DB and LookSide/propertyExtension
repository.

When parallel create/update are being made from different server
instances, VMM intermittently throws

'ORA-00001: unique constraint ([...]) violated
' SQL Exception occurred during processing.

Caused by: com.ibm.websphere.ce.cm.DuplicateKeyException:
ORA-00001:
unique constraint ([...]) violated




This APAR further enchances the functionality of existing APAR
PM60212 by adding additional logic to retry the failed database
transaction.  If the initial attempt to commit the changes to
the database fails, rather than throwing a
duplicatekeyexception the database transaction will be
attempted a number of times until the commit is successful.
If the changes cannot commited after multiple retry attempts, a
duplicateKeyException will be thrown and the changes not
committed.

As part of APAR PM60212, concurrent updates on DB and LA was
resolved.
But creation of DB entity and LA entity operation was still
failing and was not retrying any attempts.
It tries one attempt and if that fails, it was getting a
failure message and the operation was failing. This was mainly
happening in performance testing.

Problem conclusion

To solve this issue we added 25 attempts for creation of DB
and LA entity.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pacsk 7.0.0.31, 8.0.0.8 and 8.5.5.1.  Please refer to the
