Miscellaneous common metadata assets

Common metadata assets include several asset types that do not fit the major categories. These assets are data connections, custom attributes, and contract libraries.

Asset types

The following table lists and defines the miscellaneous common metadata assets that are stored in the metadata repository. You can import and export assets of these types by using the istool command line.
Table 1. Miscellaneous common metadata assets
Asset type Definition Components of the identity of the asset
Contract library A group of related XML schemas that are imported and used by the XML stage to transform data. Contract library name
Custom attribute A user-created attribute that adds information about implemented data resources, logical data resources, extended data resources, or extension mappings. Custom attribute name
Data class A business-level classification that is used to designate the business use of data that is contained within a data field. For example, a data class could classify a database column or data file field. Predefined types include: Identifier, Code, Indicator, Quantity, Date, Text, and Object. Users can define classes that are subclasses of the predefined types or that stand on their own. Data fields are classified by data classes in InfoSphere Information Analyzer and InfoSphere Information Governance Catalog. A data class can contain subclasses. For a parent data class:
  • Name of data class
  • Namespace
For a subclass:
  • Name of subclass
  • Identity of parent data class
Data collection analysis Analysis information that is provided by InfoSphere Information Analyzer for a database table or data file record. The analysis includes information on keys, integrity violations, and the number of rows and columns. A data collection analysis contains data field analysis objects for each column or field.
  • Name of project
  • Name of data collection analysis
  • Identity of data collection
Data field analysis Analysis information for each column or field in a data collection analysis.
  • Name of data field analysis
  • Identity of data field
  • Identity of containing data collection analysis
Data connection A connection for accessing a database, data file folder, or data file. For example, an ODBC or Oracle connection.
  • Data connection name
  • Connection string
