Migrating InfoSphere Business Glossary

Use these procedures to migrate content from InfoSphere® Business Glossary to Information Governance Catalog. When you migrate InfoSphere Business Glossary Versions 9.1 and earlier, the assets are migrated into Information Governance Catalog, Version 11.3. You need to export the InfoSphere Business Glossary assets that are on the source computer, and then import the assets to the target computer to complete the migration.

Before you begin

Review the InfoSphere Business Glossary files and assets that cannot be migrated.

About this task

You export assets by using the version of InfoSphere Business Glossary or the istool command-line that corresponds to your source computer. You import assets that were exported by using InfoSphere Business Glossary, by using Version 11.3 of Information Governance Catalog. You import assets that were exported by using the istool command-line, by using Version 11.3 of the istool command-line.

After migrating InfoSphere Business Glossary assets into Information Governance Catalog, you can find the assets by going to the Glossary menu.

Note: InfoSphere Business Glossary term history cannot be migrated. Links to stewards are migrated and included in the InfoSphere Business Glossary archive file only when the steward has been pre-defined on the new target computer. The selection and definition of a user as a steward is not migrated. For example, if John was defined as a steward on your Version 9.1 source computer, even if John exists as a user on the Version 11.3 target computer, unless an administrator added John as a steward, his asset assignments will not be migrated.
Before you import the glossary assets, import users and groups and assigned assets, such as common metadata and InfoSphere DataStage® assets. The exported links are then established when you import the InfoSphere Business Glossary assets.
