Exporting selected artifacts and metadata

You must export only original documents, as all logical objects and metadata associated with the original document will be exported to support it; this is because the logical objects and metadata cannot exist without the original document, so any metadata exported must also have its original document exported.

Before you begin

The export function is based on the document bsrUri, so some pre-selection of documents for export must be carried out. Document pre-selection and export can be performed in the web user interface.

About this task

An exported document will be accompanied by everything which is dependent on it; if some metadata from another document depends on it, then that document will also be contained in the export. The exported content is then a full WSRR representation of anything which depends on the requested document, taken to the full hierarchical depth. For example, object A depends on object B and are in the same governance record. Object C depends on object B. If you export object C, then object A is also exported. The governance record is also exported.

If a large portion of the documents in the registry are connected through relationships then exporting one might result in this large portion of the WSRR also being exported. Care must be taken to avoid large portions of the registry being connected in this manner and some examination of the document for export must be carried out. Export must not be used with a large list of documents.

Note: The bsrUris, which uniquely identify each object in the registry, are exported as properties and will be restored to the same value on import. Also, the exported file will contain only the classification URI, not the ontology to which this refers.
