Upgrading a product installation from IBM BPM Standard to IBM BPM Advanced

You can upgrade an installation of IBM® Business Process Manager Standard to IBM Business Process Manager Advanced by using IBM Installation Manager to install the new edition over the previously installed edition in the same package group.

Before you begin

The edition you want to upgrade must have been installed using Installation Manager. Before you perform the upgrade, shut down any servers or network deployment environments.

About this task

The supported product edition upgrade path is from Standard edition to Advanced edition. There are no upgrade paths to or from the Express edition or the Advanced - Process Server edition.

Note: An edition upgrade changes the product code so that new profiles can be created for IBM Business Process Manager Advanced. After you upgrade the installation, upgrade the profiles in the deployment environment by following the steps in the related task topic "Upgrading a Deployment environment from IBM BPM Standard to IBM BPM Advanced."

CAUTION:

Upgrading from V8.5.5 to a previous version edition is not supported. For example, if you are running IBM BPM Standard V8.5.5 and want to upgrade to IBM BPM Advanced, you cannot upgrade to IBM BPM Advanced V8.5.0.0 or V8.5.0.1; you must upgrade to IBM BPM Advanced V8.5.5 or later.

Procedure

Start the Installation Manager.
Click File > Preferences > Repositories and browse to the repository that contains disk 2 of the IBM BPM Advanced package. Click Add Repository.
From the Installation Manager Welcome page, click Install.
On the Install Packages page, select the edition that you want to install.
Click Next to continue.
On the Licenses page, read the license agreement. If you agree to the terms of the license agreement, click I accept the terms in the license agreements and click Next.
On the Install Location page, select the package group that contains the edition that you want to upgrade.
On the Summary page, review your choices before installing the package. If you want to change the choices that you made on previous pages, click Back and make your changes. When you are satisfied with your installation choices, click Install to install the package. A progress indicator shows the percentage of the installation completed.
When the installation process is complete, a message confirms the success of the process.
1. Optional: Click View Log File to open the installation log file for the current session in a new window. Close the Installation Log window to continue.
2. Select None to complete the installation.
3. Click Finish to close the Installation Manager.

After the Advanced edition has been installed, upgrade the deployment environment to take advantage of the additional capabilities that are provided in an IBM BPM Advanced environment.
