Installing WebSphere eXtreme Scale Client

For IBM® WebSphere® DataPower® XC10 Appliance to work with WebSphere Application Server or clients in a stand-alone environment, you must install the WebSphere eXtreme Scale Client or package the client Java™ archive (JAR) files with your application.

About this task

Installing the WebSphere eXtreme Scale Client is required for your client applications to communicate with IBM WebSphere DataPower XC10 Appliance. Before you install the client, you must know if you want to install the client in a stand-alone environment or into a WebSphere Application Server environment.

If your applications use WebSphere Application Server dynamic cache or HTTP sessions, then you must install the WebSphere eXtreme Scale Client into the WebSphere Application Server environment.

Simple data grids can be used in an embedded WebSphere Application Server environment or in a stand-alone environment. When you install the client in a stand-alone environment, the installation does not use WebSphere Application Server.

Procedure

Download and install the IBM Installation Manager and ensure you have installed the necessary product repositories. See IBM Installation Manager and WebSphere eXtreme Scale Client product offerings.
Download the WebSphere eXtreme Scale Client from the support site. See the Support Portal for more information on where to download the client.
Run the installation using the Installation Manager. Choose the correct product offering. Product offerings are available based on the repositories you have added to your installation preferences in the Installation Manager. Available product offerings for WebSphere eXtreme Scale Client include:
- WebSphere eXtreme Scale Client in a stand-alone environment
- WebSphere eXtreme Scale Client for WebSphere Application Server Version 6
- WebSphere eXtreme Scale Client for WebSphere Application Server Version 7
- WebSphere eXtreme Scale Client for WebSphere Application Server Version 8
Use the installation that is appropriate for your planned configuration:
- Embedded client installation: If you are using dynamic cache or HTTP sessions, you must use the embedded installation. You can also use the embedded installation with simple data grids. See Installing WebSphere eXtreme Scale Client with WebSphere Application Server for more information.
- Stand-alone client installation: You can use the client installation in a stand-alone environment with simple data grids only. See Installing WebSphere eXtreme Scale Client with the GUI for more information.
- Silent installation: You can also install the client in a stand-alone environment or in an embedded WebSphere Application Server environment using a response file. See Installing WebSphere eXtreme Scale Client using a response file for more information.
