Who originates a broadcast search?

z/OS Communications Server: SNA Network Implementation Guide
SC27-3672-01

A broadcast search is initiated only by a network node server for the LUs it serves if there is no central directory server defined in the network. If there is a central directory server defined, only the central directory server can issue a broadcast search. If a central directory server is active in your network, a network node server sends a directed search to the central directory server instead of issuing a broadcast search. Only if the directed search is unable to reach the central directory server does the network node server issue its own broadcast search.
