Improving VTAM performance using start options

z/OS Communications Server: SNA Network Implementation Guide
SC27-3672-01

You can use the following information to improve performance using start options:
  • VTAM® search reduction support can be used with the SRCHRED, SRTIMER, and SRCOUNT start options.
  • The NCPBUFSZ start option can be used to improve performance when you load or dump a link-attached 3720 or 3745 communication controller by specifying a request limit size.

Your use of start options also affects VTAM use of host processor time and storage. Buffer pool specifications, the limit of buffer usage for session outage notification, and the number of subtasks used to perform dump, load, and restart processes impacts VTAM host resources. For more information about these start options and other factors that impact VTAM performance in your network, see Tuning VTAM for your environment.
