Monitoring and managing XCA-attached CCL NCPs

z/OS Communications Server: SNA Network Implementation Guide
SC27-3672-01

For functions that are supported by CCL, monitoring and managing the operation of CCL NCPs is performed in much the same way as for NCPs running on 3745 hardware. For example, the VTAM® DISPLAY DISK and DISPLAY NCPSTOR commands can be used to query CCL NCP disk storage and memory contents respectively.

Some VTAM commands used to monitor NCPs are intended for functions that are not supported by CCL NCPs. (For example, the MODIFY IMR command is used to start or stop intensive mode recording for a station on an SDLC line, but CCL NCPs do not support SDLC lines.) VTAM does not prevent these commands from being issued for CCL NCPs. The CCL NCP will reject requests for unsupported types of links and devices.

The VTAM MODIFY TRACE,TYPE=LINE and MODIFY TRACE,TYPE=SIT commands can also be used to start and stop NCP line and scanner interface traces respectively. However, for scanner interface traces, the trace data collected is written to one or more files in the Linux File System (rather than being sent directly to VTAM). These trace files can then be examined from the CCL MOSS console, the Linux system, or transferred to the host for problem diagnosis. See the CCL documentation for more information.
