Defining dynamic reconfiguration

z/OS Communications Server: SNA Network Implementation Guide
SC27-3672-01

You can use dynamic reconfiguration to logically move physical and logical units to an alternate line. The task is about steps to define dynamic reconfiguration with both LPDA-1 modems and LPDA-2 DCEs.

Procedure

To define dynamic reconfiguration with both LPDA-1 modems and LPDA-2 DCEs, perform the following steps.

  1. Generate the NCP to include dynamic reconfiguration.
  2. Generate alternate ports in the NCP as nonswitched lines.
    • For LPDA-1 modems, generate LPDA-1 lines.
    • For LPDA-2 DCEs, generate LPDA-2 lines.
  3. Create the dynamic reconfiguration definitions and store them in the VTAM® definition library. The file should include:
    • DELETE statements for the physical units being backed up
    • ADD statements to add these physical units to the backup link
  4. Activate the backup line.
  5. Enter a VARY DRDS command to invoke the dynamic reconfiguration. The backup switched line is now ready for use.
