Coding the HOST definition statement

z/OS Communications Server: SNA Network Implementation Guide
SC27-3672-01

On each HOST definition statement defining VTAM®, you should add one NETID operand. This is not required but is recommended. If NETID is omitted, only the SUBAREA value is used. This can result in the HOST definition statement being processed by the wrong VTAM host.

NETID specifies the network containing the host node to which this HOST definition statement applies. The NETID and SUBAREA operands are used together to determine which VTAM host should process this HOST definition statement.

Update NCP PATH definition statements by doing the following steps:
  • Define the new routes that originate in the gateway NCP subarea.
  • Map virtual routes to explicit routes for routes that originate in the gateway NCP subarea. For virtual routes that terminate in a VTAM host subarea, the forward and reverse virtual route numbers must match.

On each PU definition statement that represents a type 4 physical unit, add one NETID operand (required).

NETID specifies the NETID of the network in which the physical unit, represented by this link station, resides.
