Sending Messages with the TRANSMIT Command

z/OS TSO/E User's Guide
SA32-0971-00

The TRANSMIT command allows you to send the following to users on your system node and on other system nodes:
  • A message
  • A data set
  • Selected members of a partitioned data set
  • A message with a data set
A typical TRANSMIT command to transmit a message is as follows:
TRANSMIT node_id.user_id

The system then prompts you for the message text.

For information on transmitting a data set, see Sending and Receiving Data Sets.

Your installation may use various security options to customize how the TRANSMIT command works. Because transmitting a message is essentially the same as transmitting a data set, see Security Considerations for Sending and Receiving Data Sets for more information about security concerns using the TRANSMIT command.
