Planning the DRMODE System Parameter

z/OS MVS Setting Up a Sysplex
SA23-1399-00

The DRMODE system parameter indicates whether the system is being IPL'd as part of a unique disaster recovery scenario and special handling of certain resources are required.

Generally, for almost all IPL's, specify:
     DRMODE=NO (or use the parameter default of NO).
When a system is being IPL'd following a sysplex failure case, or specific test, and this single system is being used as the recovery system to reestablish the resources before restarting work loads, then specify:
     DRMODE=YES

The YES option along with a Y response to Logger confirmation message IXG068D causes System Logger to include DRXRC-type staging data sets in its log data recovery for coupling facility structure-based log streams that had been connected prior to the IPL with the DRMODE=YES option. When this option is specified, it is assumed that the necessary actions had been taken to establish the DASD consistency groups related to the Logger data sets.
