Removing (Deleting) a File System

z/OS DFSMSdfp Advanced Services
SC23-6861-01

If you mount the file system (HFS data set) to a different file system or you want to delete it, first logically unmount it using the TSO/E UNMOUNT command against the HFS data set containing it. Then you can use either or both of the MOUNT commands (see Adding and Mounting File Systems to the Root File System).

You can eliminate the file system by using any of the following techniques:
  • Use the DELETE command (IDCAMS or TSO).
  • Execute an IEFBR14 job with DISP=(OLD,DELETE) specified for the HFS data set.
  • ISPF option 3.x.
  • Use the SCRATCH and UNCATLG commands of IEHPROGM.
