You can define data set vital record specifications with the RELEASE operand to control the processing DFSMSrmm performs when a volume is no longer retained by a vital record specification. Use the RELEASE(EXPIRYDATEIGNORE) operand to release a volume even the volume expiration date has not been reached. Use the RELEASE(SCRATCHIMMEDIATE) operand if you want to return a volume to scratch status immediately in a single run of DFSMSrmm inventory management. Use the ADDVRS subcommand or the DFSMSrmm ISPF dialog to define vital record specification.
