The external label is used to verify that the correct volume is mounted. The internal, external, and requested (JCL) volume labels must all match, otherwise the request fails. If there is a label mismatch while the automated tape library is in manual mode, then the volume is demounted and a mount request is reissued. All tape library error retry actions are repeated until the action is successful or a system retry default is exceeded.
