SC23-6854-00

In a stand-alone environment, the SETOAM TAPEUNITNAME parameter in the CBROAMxx member of PARMLIB can be specified using an esoteric that contains TS1140 (3592-4E) tape drives. In the stand-alone environment, 3592 Model J, TS1120 (not encryption capable), TS1120 (encryption capable), TS1130, and TS1140 drives need to be segregated in their own unique esoteric in order to prevent the allocation of any drive other than a TS1140 for a volume written with EFMT4 or EEFMT4 recording technology, because EFMT4 and EEFMT4 are compatible only with TS1140 drives. In an IBM tape library environment, the SETOAM DATACLASS parameter at the storage group (or global level) can be used to specify a desired recording technology and ensure allocating an appropriate drive.

The ERDS Physical ID (EPI) value for the TS1140 drive is a hex '15' and is stored in the DB2 TAPEVOL table of the OAM Optical Configuration Database (OCDB) for a volume written on the TS1140 drive (in the EFMT4 or EEFMT4 recording formats, as well as the older recording formats EFMT3 and EEFMT3), and displayed, as appropriate, in the volume display. The new media types will also be displayed as MEDIA11, MEDIA12, and MEDIA13, when appropriate. MEDIA11, MEDIA12, and MEDIA13 volumes will be recorded in the DB2 TAPEVOL table as character values ‘16’, ‘17’, and ‘18’, respectively.
