Use CONVERTV with the PREPARE option to prevent new allocations on a volume that is ready to be placed under system management without actually migrating eligible data sets to system management. This stabilizes the number of data sets in preparation for migration. The PREPARE option sets the volume status to initial and gives you time to move ineligible data sets from the volume.
