RLS does not support the following options and capabilities:
- Linear data sets
- Addressed access to a KSDS
- Control interval (CNV or ICI) to any VSAM data set type
- User buffering (UBF)
- Clusters that have been defined with the IMBED option
- Key Range data sets
- Temporary data sets
- GETIX and PUTIX requests
- MVS Checkpoint/Restart facility
- ACBSDS (system data set) specification
- Hiperbatch
- VVDS, the JRNAD exit, and any JCL AMP= parameters in JCL
- Data that is stored in z/OS UNIX System Services
In addition, VSAM RLS has the following restrictions:
- You cannot specify RLS access when accessing a VSAM data set using
the ISAM interface to VSAM.
- You cannot open individual components of a VSAM cluster for RLS
access.
- You cannot specify a direct open of an alternate index for RLS
access, but you can specify RLS open of an alternate index path.
- RLS open does not implicitly position to the beginning of the
data set. For sequential or skip-sequential processing, specify a
POINT or GET DIR, NSP request to establish a position in the data
set.
- RLS does not support a request that is issued while the caller
is executing in any of the following modes: cross-memory mode, SRB
mode, or under an FRR. See Requesting VSAM RLS Run-Mode for a complete list
of mode requirements.
- RLS does not support UNIX files.
