Determining action when intermediate storage is insufficient

z/OS DFSORT Application Programming Guide
SC23-6878-00

You can write a routine to direct DFSORT program action if DFSORT determines that insufficient intermediate storage is available to handle the input data set. You must associate this routine with the E16 user exit for sorts using tape work data sets. For a sort that uses tape data sets, you can choose between sorting current records only, trying to complete the sort, or terminating DFSORT. For more details, see Exceeding tape work space capacity.
