The specified spool volume has not been allocated. This message may follow another JES2 message indicating the problem.

In the message text, reason is one of the following:
OBTAIN FAILURE, RC=01
I/O ERROR DURING FORMAT, RC=02
I/O ERROR DURING READ VALIDATION, RC=03
DYNAMIC ALLOCATION FAILURE, RC=04
allocation_message (This is the message put
out by dynamic allocation in case of a failure)
INTERNAL ERROR, RC=05
UNABLE TO GET DEVICE INFORMATION, RC=06
UNUSABLE EXTENT SIZE, RC=07
EXTENT SIZE IS LIMITED TO 64K TRACKS --
NUMBER OF RECORDS PER TRACK EXCEEDS 15, RC=08

UNABLE TO CONSTRUCT ENQ MINOR NAME, RC=13
DIAGNOSE - RC=retcd
where retcd and rsncd are the return code and
reason code from the failing service
respectively.
ERROR FINDING LARGEST EXTENT AVAILABLE, RC=14
EXTENT EXCEEDS 1,048,575 LIMIT, RC=15
SPOOL EXTENT TOO SMALL, RC=16
DATASET dsname NOT ALLOCATED, RC=17
SUBTASK ATTACH FAILURE, RC=18
MORE THAN xxx SPOOLS DEFINED, RC=19
EXTEND SPOOL UNSUCCESSFUL, RC=20

System action

  • For a cold start, the volume is ignored and processing continues.
  • For an all-member warm start, the operator is queried as to the action to be taken. (The $HASP853 message is issued.)
  • For any other type of starts, initialization ends.
  • If this message is issued in response to a start spool command, the command is rejected, and JES2 processing continues.

Operator response

Mount the correct volume on the required device.

For RC=20, use a VTOC reporting utility, such as IEHLIST, to determine the layout and size of data sets on the volume in relation to the JES2 spool data set extent.

Module
