This topic describes the high-level remote procedure calls (RPCs) implemented in TCP/IP including the RPC programming interface to the C language and communication between processes. With the RPC protocol, you can remote run subroutines across a TCP/IP network. RPC, together with the eXternal Data Representation (XDR) protocol, defines a standard for representing data that is independent of internal protocols or formatting.
