SYstem subcommand—Display the operating system name

Purpose

Use the SYstem subcommand to display the name of the remote host operating system. The remote host must have also implemented the SYST subcommand.

Parameters

There are no parameters for this subcommand.

Usage

Use this subcommand to determine the operating system at the server. The reply from the server has as its first word one of the system names from the Protocol Numbers and Assignment Services list for Operating System Names. The names are maintained by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority). For the z/OS® server, the reply is determined by the current working directory at the server.
  • If the current working directory is a z/OS UNIX file system directory, the reply is:
    215 UNIX is the operating system of this server. FTP Server is running on z/OS.
  • Otherwise, the reply is:
    215 MVS is the operating system of this server. FTP Server is running on z/OS.
