When an I/O error occurs on the control data sets, the following
situations can exist:
- If the I/O error is caused by an equipment check on the real DASD
containing the affected data set, recover the data set to a different
volume. Call your service representative to repair the drive on which
the equipment check has occurred.
- If the I/O error is caused by a data check on the real DASD containing
any control data set, you can use the enhanced CDS recovery function
to recover the backup version of the affected data set to a different
volume. You can use Device Support Facilities (a program to perform
operations on disk volumes) to analyze, inspect, and assign alternate
tracks and then recover the affected control data set to the same
volume. Or, you can rename the affected control data set and define
a new control data set on the same volume.
