DFSMShsm considers the target data set to exist if the target data set name is cataloged. The target data set and target data set name refer to either the original name of the data set (if you did not specify a new name) or to the new name of the data set that you specified with the NEWNAME parameter of the RECOVER or HRECOVER command.
