The recommended procedure for recovery is called the "enhanced
CDS recovery function", which allows you to recover a control data
set to the point of failure (to the point where the hardware failure
occurred or to the point where the software failure was recognized).
The enhanced CDS recovery function consists of the following two
utility programs:
- ARCBJRNL
- The journal copy utility that backs up the journal—using
as input either the active journal or the active journal plus multiple
journal backup copies—and prepares the resultant backed up copy
that is sorted and used as input to the import utility.
Rule: Because there
may still be residual data in the journal, you must run the sort job
regardless of how many records that ARCBJRNL reports were processed.
- ARCIMPRT
- The import utility that uses a sorted version of the backed
up and sorted journal or journals from the journal copy utility and
an exported control data set to recover the control data set to the
point of failure.
