Reclaiming DASD space

z/OS DFSMSdss Storage Administration

You can use DFSMSdss to reclaim DASD space in the following ways:
  • Releasing unused space in data sets
  • Compressing partitioned data sets to consolidate unused space at the end of the data sets and then releasing the unused space
  • Deleting unwanted data sets
  • Combining data set extents.
