Migrating a z/OS deployment manager: Checklist

Activities for migrating a deployment manager to WebSphere® Application Server Version 9.0 after you generate the appropriate Job Control Language (JCL) jobs include activities related to general preparation and node migration. Use the following checklist as a quick reference to these activities. Follow the instructions that were generated by the z/OS® Migration Management Tool or the zmmt command to complete the process of migrating your deployment manager to Version 9.0.

Procedure

  1. Prepare to migrate the deployment manager.
    Table 1. Deployment manager checklist . Enter your values:
    Check off Item
    __________ Inventory your existing Version 7.0 or later configuration and capture key information.

    Read Preparing to migrate a WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment cell for z/OS for more information.

    __________ Map a strategy for the sequence of nodes to be migrated.
    __________ Create CNTL and DATA datasets for each node to be migrated.

    Read Preparing to migrate a deployment manager using the z/OS Migration Management Tool or Preparing to migrate a z/OS deployment manager using the zmmt command for more information.

    __________ Create the Version 9.0 configuration mount point, allocate a configuration file system, and mount either manually or by running the BBOMDHFS or BBOMDZFS job.
    __________ Customize and run the BBOMDCP job to copy the generated JCL procedures to your procedure library.
  2. Migrate the deployment manager.

    Check off Item
    __________ Run the migration jobs—including the BBOWMG3D job or the BBOWDPRO, BBOWDPRE, and BBOWDPOS jobs—by following the generated instructions; and check for success.
    __________ Start the Version 9.0 copy of the deployment manager.
