DB2 Version 10.1 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows

Net Search Extender has been deprecated

Net Search Extender (NSE) and all related functionality has been deprecated and might be removed in a future release.

Details

DB2® Text Search is the strategic search solution for DB2 database products.

DB2 Text Search has an architecture that can easily adopt new features and provides the following key functions that sets it apart from NSE:
  • Support for linguistic processing
  • XQuery, XPath-like search syntax
  • Integrated text search server installation
  • Stored procedures for index administration
  • Support for rich text document formats using the DB2 Accessories Suite package

DB2 Text Search is supported on all operating systems that NSE is supported, except for Linux on System z® (64-bit) operating systems. DB2 Text Search provides equivalent functionality to NSE functionality as described in the feature comparison of both solutions.

Resolution

Start using DB2 Text Search instead of NSE before it becomes discontinued. DB2 Text Search allows you to issue SQL and XQuery statements to perform text search queries on data stored in a DB2 database.

For IBM® Business Partners applications that use NSE, contact your IBM Business Partner for details about migration from NSE to DB2 Text Search.

For customers that use NSE features that have equivalent features in DB2 Text Search, see "Migration to DB2 Text Search" for details.
