Configuring virtual Ethernet on the Virtual I/O Server

You can configure virtual Ethernet devices by deploying a system plan, create and configure a Shared Ethernet Adapter, and configure a Link Aggregation device.

For higher availability, you can create a virtual adapter with the Port VLAN ID (PVID) of the corresponding Virtual LAN (VLAN) and configure the IP address on the interface of that virtual adapter.

For better performance, you can configure the IP address as follows:
  • If the VLAN is the same as the PVID, you can configure the IP address on the SEA interface.
  • If the VLAN is not the same as the PVID, you can create a VLAN pseudo-device with the VLAN ID and assign the IP address on the interface of the pseudo-device.
