Error description
In IBM Developer for z Systems V14.0.0.5, when copying to clipboard using Ctrl+C in the Cobol Editor, the copy operation can take a minute or more. Steps to Reproduce: - Go to Windows > Prefererence > COBOL > Sequence Numbers and enable "Manage Sequence Numbers" and verify that "Enable smart copy" is also enabled. - Open a large file in Remote Systems, using the Cobol Editor. - Select all, using Ctrl+A - Copy to Clip board, using Ctrl+C IDz appear to freeze up for a minute or so before the copy is complete.
Local fix
Problem summary
Large files with Smart Copy and Manage Sequence number enabled should cause the client to freeze. This was caused by a change to Java's handling of String and substring functions that turned a O(c) function to O(n). This isn't an issue for smaller strings, but 50,000 line+ strings causes issues.
Problem conclusion
The code has been changed to handle copying substrings differently to ensure the client doesn't freeze.
