Error description

  • In IBM Developer for z Systems V14.0.0.5, when copying to
clipboard using Ctrl+C in the Cobol Editor, the copy operation
can take a minute or more.

Steps to Reproduce:
-  Go to Windows > Prefererence > COBOL > Sequence Numbers and
enable
"Manage Sequence Numbers" and verify that "Enable smart copy" is
also
enabled.
- Open a large file in Remote Systems, using the Cobol Editor.
- Select all, using Ctrl+A
- Copy to Clip board, using Ctrl+C

IDz appear to freeze up for a minute or so before the copy is
complete.

Problem summary


    

  • Large files with Smart Copy and Manage Sequence number enabled
should cause the client to freeze.  This was caused by a change
to Java's handling of String and substring functions that turned
a O(c) function to O(n).  This isn't an issue for smaller
strings, but 50,000 line+ strings causes issues.

    



Problem conclusion


    

  • The code has been changed to handle copying substrings
differently to ensure the client doesn't freeze.
